The TORUN TRIO
was founded in 2005 by clarinettist Simone Weber, cellist Anna Catharina Nimczik and pianist Sara Derman. The three young musicians started working together while studying at the Robert-Schumann-Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf and have since then performed as a trio throughout Europe. Their repertoire covers more than two centuries of music history, and combines classical as well as contemporary music with influences from jazz, latin and klezmer music. Moreover, the ensemble is dedicated to the performance of lesser known compositions and composers, turning concerts into unique experiences.
In 2006, the Torun Trio released its first CD, consisting of compositions by Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann and Erland von Koch. All proceeds were donated to the charitable foundation Atlantis. The ensemble has participated in masterclasses with Charles Neidich as well as Eduard Brunner, who coached and supported the trio on a regular basis.
In 2013, the Torun Trio graduated with a Konzertexamen in chamber music from the Hochschule für Musik Saar, where they studied with Prof. Tatevik Mokatsian and Prof. Johannes Gmeinder.
The Torun Trio has performed at music festivals in Germany, Belgium, Italy and Spain.
